LLEIDA

Lleida, the largest city in western Cataluña, lies half way between Zaragoza and Barcelona in one of Spain's most important agricultural regions. Originally settled by the Iberos, the city developed into an important urban center. The Castel La Suda, a massive structure built as a Moorish stronghold, occupies the highest ground in the city. Within the walls of the castle, stands the Old Cathedral (La Seu Vella) with its richly decorated columns and traceried windows.
