SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA

Santiago de Compostela lies in northwestern Spain in Galicia. It is one of the most visited religious shrines in Christianity. According to legend, the body of the apostle James (Santiago) was miraculously discovered in 813 on the site where the present cathedral stands. Since that time, pilgrims have flocked to Santiago to visit the shrine and pay homage to the saint. The cathedral, built between 1060-1211, was remodeled during the 16th through 18th centuries. The old part of the city contains narrow, arcaded streets and wonderful pedestrian zones where travelers can rest and enjoy the charm of the city.
