SANTO DOMINGO DE SILOS

After Segovia, the group traveled to Santo Domingo de Silos, a monastery founded in 593 by the Visigothic king Reccared. The monastery was rebuilt in the eleventh century by Santo Domingo. Its cloister contains magnificent carved capitals, arabesques, and stone reliefs depicting scenes from the New Testament. On the way to Silos, the group walked through the Yecla gorge.
