Barcelona lies on a coastal plain between the mouths of the Riu Besós and the Riu Llobregat. The city begins at its port and spreads inland toward the mountains:

• Muntanya Pelada, on the northeast,
• Tibidabo, on the northwest,
• Montjuïc, site of museums, parks, and historic monuments, on the southwest.
